7 New School Boundary meeting :
LWPS School Council joined YRDSB meeting to review Dr. Betty Stephenson
Secondary School proposed new boundary. Dr. Betty Stephenson Secondary
School is planned to open September of 2027 and during 27/28 school year
to include grades 9 and 10. One new class to be added each additional
year.
8 Co-Chairs Update:
•Next Movie rescheduled April 16th (previously suggested date conflicted
with holidays)
•Considering separating dinner tables from movie experience
9 Co-Chairs Update (continued):
PRO grant:
•Council is considering UpPower
•Mr. C has reached out to staff for suggestions
•Ms. Naqi met with X-movement. They offer a hands-on experiential learning
workshop. Three 35-45 minute workshops over 3 days - JK-8, day 4 - evening
workshop for families. Dance based, one is through sport and growth mind
set, one based on team building style games (explore conflict resolution,
empathy and respect, etc), one on self regulation (body mind and heart)
Families would get access to online library of physical activity for a year.
Cost $7 per student (approximately $2,450 total, $800 covered by pro
grant). Need response before March Break.
•Georgia noted that PRO grant is meant to encourage parent engagement
(more so than students during the day), however events that include kids
typically have higher attendance. School council to discuss.
